“No disease can survive in an alkaline environment.”
Dr. Otto Warburg – A Pioneer in Cellular Science
Full Name: Otto Heinrich Warburg
Born: October 8, 1883, Freiburg, Germany
Died: August 1, 1970, Berlin, Germany
Dr. Otto Warburg was a German physiologist, medical doctor, and Nobel Prize winner. He received the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1931 for his groundbreaking work on cellular respiration and the discovery of the role of enzymes in the oxygen-transfer process within cells.
His research showed that cancer cells tend to generate energy differently than normal cells — a process known as the Warburg Effect, where cells rely on fermentation (glycolysis) even in the presence of oxygen. This finding opened new directions in cancer research.
It’s important to note that while Warburg suggested cancer could not thrive in an alkaline environment, this idea has often been simplified or misinterpreted in modern wellness marketing. He emphasized cellular metabolism and oxygen supply, highlighting that maintaining a balanced alkaline environment at the cellular level is key to overall health, rather than focusing solely on alkaline water.
