The product names follow the same philosophy: Amara (immortal), Udaka (water), Toya (water in its essential form). Modish is the deliberate exception — named for what it represents: ultra-premium, unapologetically modern.

The National Research Development Corporation is a public-sector enterprise under the Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India, established in 1953. Its mandate is the transfer of indigenously developed technology from research institutions to commercial deployment. Alkaline water has a pH above 7 on the pH scale. SOMAWA ionizers produce water with selectable pH levels through electrolysis. But pH is only one of three measurable properties. SOMAWA water also contains dissolved molecular hydrogen and has a negative ORP (oxidation-reduction potential). These three properties together are what define restructured water. Molecular hydrogen (H₂) is the smallest molecule in existence. It is a selective antioxidant — meaning it targets harmful free radicals while leaving beneficial ones untouched. Over 1,300 peer-reviewed studies have been published on molecular hydrogen. It is recognised as GRAS (Generally Recognised as Safe) by the U.S. FDA. ORP measures a liquid's tendency to gain or donate electrons, expressed in millivolts (mV). Positive ORP means the liquid oxidises (rusts, ages, degrades). Negative ORP means the liquid reduces (donates electrons, acts as an antioxidant). Tap water and bottled water typically have ORP of +200 to +400 mV. SOMAWA water produces ORP in the range of -400 to -800 mV — comparable to the natural springs of Gangotri and the Hunza Valley. Read the ORP deep dive.

Both are 5-plate ionizers and the output water quality is the same. The difference is how water reaches the machine. Amara uses push-only technology — water pressure from your tap pushes water through the ionizer. It installs directly on your tap and is designed for water with TDS up to 200. Amara NXT uses pull and push technology — it has a built-in pump that actively pulls water from your existing RO tank and pushes it through the ionizer. This is the right choice when your source water TDS exceeds 200 and you already have an RO system. Your SOMAWA consultant will test your water and recommend the right model.

Yes. Udaka has a built-in RO membrane integrated with the ionizer — purification and restructuring in a single machine. If you are starting fresh and need both RO and ionisation, Udaka is designed for that. If you already have an RO you are happy with, Amara NXT adds ionisation to your existing setup. Explore Udaka.

Every SOMAWA machine is engineered to a 25-year operational standard. The electrolysis plates, the chassis, and the core electronics are built for two and a half decades of daily use. Filters are replaced annually as part of standard maintenance. Read about the service model.
